Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around a homework problem involving an op-amp circuit, specifically a voltage follower configuration, and the use of Multisim for circuit simulation. Participants explore the characteristics of op-amps, feedback mechanisms, and the implications of component values on circuit behavior.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related
  • Technical explanation
  • Conceptual clarification
  • Debate/contested
  • Mathematical reasoning

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants discuss the requirement for Vcc to be greater than 5V for the zener diode to function properly.
  • There is a debate about the nature of feedback in the op-amp circuit, with some asserting it is negative feedback connected to the inverting input.
  • Participants question the current flow through a 10kΩ resistor, with some suggesting there is no current due to a lack of voltage drop.
  • Several participants express confusion regarding the role of Vcc and its relationship to the output voltage of the op-amp.
  • There are discussions about how to determine output voltage and current in the circuit, with references to various formulas for op-amp behavior.
  • Some participants mention the importance of understanding the circuit's operation rather than focusing solely on component values.
  • There is uncertainty about the exact values of voltages in the circuit, with conflicting information about Vcc and the power supplies for the op-amp.
  • One participant proposes that the output voltage of the non-inverting amplifier is equal to the input voltage, while others seek to clarify the implications of this relationship.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on several points, including the exact role of Vcc, the nature of feedback in the circuit, and how to calculate output current. Multiple competing views remain on these topics.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations in the discussion regarding assumptions about voltage sources, the role of feedback resistances, and the specific values required for calculations. Some participants express confusion over the definitions and relationships between various circuit components.

Vout = A (V₊  ̶ V₋) never seen this formula is it the same as Vout=Av*Vin

V=IR
5=I x 10k
I= 0.0005 A

The op-amp triangle shows two inputs. What is Vin?
V=IR
5=I x 10k
I= 0.0005 A
That looks right.
