How did you find PF?
Google
Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. After having been a mechanical technician for close to 12 years, I have decided to embark on higher education (only left school with GCSE's). I am currently studying my HNC in Mechanical Engineering and hoping to go onto a degree but it is all a bit daunting. I have found this forum very interesting as a lot of very useful material in here and also some clever people to bounce ideas off.

Thanks,

Bash

Hello Bash, :welcome: !

Didn't want to spoil your position on the unanswered threads list, but from your wording I get the impression the math seems daunting to you. For an algebraic solution you will need algebra and to convert wordt and pictures to math, abit of geometry is xx useful. Under your post there's a list of threads about cranks and you can see there what you need: goniometry etc. Doesn't Tesside offer a math brush up you might join ?

I'm all right with algebra but it's things like slider crank mechanisms I find daunting.

Hello,

Yes indeed, math can be a bit daunting. But up to now I have got through the first two modules of the course and had promising marks in my last two assignments of the third. I just seem to struggle with the slider crank part of this assignment.

I was afraid that as soon as I reached out, people would just assume that I am not up to it.

Oh well, back to the books then. Thanks for your input.

Tell me about it.

Hello everyone, I was advised to join this community while seeking guidance on how to navigate the academic world as an independent researcher. My name is Omar, and I'm based in Groningen The Netherlands. My formal physics education ended after high school, but I have dedicated the last several years to developing a theoretical framework from first principles. My work focuses on a topological field theory (which I call Swirl-String Theory) that models particles as knotted vortex...
