I never realized that Newman's Own is a charitable organization. Otherwise I would have tried his products long ago. All profits go to charitable causes.

WNPR reporter John Dankosky narrates a Connecticut Public Television report on how legendary actor Paul Newman's charitable food company is still thriving after his 2008 death. The Newman's Own Foundation evolved into one of the most-recognizable celebrity-run charities and recently surpassed $300 million in donations.

Oh Yeah! My hubby is a big fan of his talent and life style. I'm nuts about him for a different reason. And that's it.

Paul Newman is awesome! I sometimes get his salad dressings.

yeah, you should have tried them long ago. they're not as good now. i used to get the balsamic vinaigrette, but somewhere along the way they got cheap and started mixing in soybean oil with the olive oil.

Yep. I remember a quote from Paul that something to the effect that if he would have known the brand was going to be such a hit, he wouldn't have made it non-profit! (He was being sarcastic... I hope).

I really like some of his pasta sauces. For a quick sauce from a jar, they are not bad at all. His salad dressings are pretty decent too.

Commercial-grade foods in a really competitive field. Nothing real exceptional in that line, IMO, just some pretty reliable products. It was very nice of him to give the profits to charities, and I'm glad that it continues.

When my wife is making platters of taco-dip to take to parties, she uses Newman's Own salsas. My home-made ones are too hot for most people, and she wants to save them for us, anyway.

She mixes taco seasoning with cream cheese and some sour cream, and spreads that out in the bottom of a platter. Next comes a layer of salsa, then a layer of chopped lettuce, onions, tomatoes, etc, all topped with shredded Monterey jack cheese. Serve with corn chips and stand back. The stuff usually doesn't last long, and is VERY popular with kids - even kids that are not all that keen on salads or vegetables.

I wish he were still around. Don't think the quality of his product would go down if he were over seeing it.
