Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the effects of men urinating in toilet bowls, particularly focusing on the potential for spray resulting from the angle of the stream hitting the bowl. Participants explore various aspects of this phenomenon, including design suggestions for toilets and urinals, the physics involved, and humorous anecdotes related to aiming and cleanliness.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested
  • Humor

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that peeing on the side of the toilet bowl may not result in spray, as they believe most drops will go downwards instead of upwards.
  • Others propose that if urine hits the water directly, it is likely to create spray that could reach above the bowl's edge.
  • A suggestion is made to design toilets with a specific area to contain spray, possibly marked with a target.
  • Newton's Third Law of motion is referenced as a principle that might explain the dynamics of the spray.
  • One participant humorously notes the challenge of aiming accurately at a fly placed in a urinal, suggesting it may not be as easy as it seems.
  • There is a discussion about the psychological urge to aim for a fly in the toilet, even if it is not real, and how this relates to male behavior.
  • Participants share anecdotes about personal experiences with urinals and the challenges of cleanliness associated with them.
  • Some express skepticism about the effectiveness of aiming strategies and the design of toilets and urinals.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the effects of urination angles and the resulting spray. Multiple competing views are presented regarding the physics involved and the design of toilet fixtures.

Contextual Notes

Discussions include varying assumptions about the shape and design of toilet bowls and urinals, as well as the impact of different materials on sound and splash. There is also a lack of resolution regarding the effectiveness of aiming strategies and the psychological factors at play.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be of interest to those exploring the intersection of physics and everyday life, as well as individuals curious about toilet design and male behavior in restrooms.

Hi, Steve

I believe the cause of the lass' complaint is sheer jealousy.

Enjoy your next pee in peace,

Zooby

yes, yes i think this is a vary accurate observation. it explains why women have such unrealistically high expectations for the bathroom usage of men.

Then there are women like W with no sex drive whatsoever, who wonder why there are urine stains on the ceiling...
