Physics Pressure ranking pressures?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on ranking pressure points based on fluid density, specifically comparing points in a green region with greater density to points in a blue region. The pressure at a given height is determined by the equation pressure = rho x g x height, where rho represents fluid density. The conclusion drawn is that the pressure at points 1 and 2, which are on the same horizontal line, is equal, while the pressure at point 3, located in the denser green region, is greater than both points 1 and 2.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of fluid density and its impact on pressure
  • Familiarity with the equation for pressure: pressure = rho x g x height
  • Basic knowledge of hydrostatic pressure principles
  • Concept of pressure variation with height in fluids
NEXT STEPS
  • Study hydrostatic pressure calculations in different fluid densities
  • Learn about Pascal's principle and its applications in fluid mechanics
  • Explore the effects of height on pressure in various fluids
  • Investigate real-world applications of pressure differences in engineering
USEFUL FOR

Students studying fluid mechanics, physics educators, and professionals in engineering fields who require a solid understanding of pressure variations in fluids.

Homework Statement

assuming points 1 and 2 are on the horizontal line, and the green portion has a greater density than blue rank the pressure points??

Homework Equations

pressure = rho x g x height

The Attempt at a Solution

i was thinking 3> (1=2)

You need to think about this again.

If the density of the fluid in the green region, differs from the blue region, then the pressure at the same height beneath the surface will be different.
