I used an older edition of Power Systems Analysis and Design by Glover and Sarma as a reference for a while, and found it useful.

1. What is the difference between power electronics and power systems?

Power electronics deals with the conversion, control, and management of electrical energy, while power systems refer to the overall network of power generation, transmission, and distribution. Power electronics is a subset of power systems and focuses on individual components, while power systems look at the entire system as a whole.

2. What topics are typically covered in a power electronics/power systems textbook?

A power electronics/power systems textbook may cover topics such as circuit analysis, power semiconductor devices, power converters, control techniques, power quality, power system stability, and renewable energy integration.

3. How is power electronics used in everyday life?

Power electronics is used in a variety of everyday devices such as laptops, smartphones, televisions, and household appliances. It is also widely used in industrial applications for motor control, lighting, and power supplies.

4. What skills are required to study power electronics/power systems?

A strong foundation in electrical engineering concepts such as circuit analysis, electromagnetics, and semiconductor devices is necessary to study power electronics/power systems. Knowledge of programming and control theory is also beneficial.

5. Are there any emerging trends in power electronics/power systems?

Some emerging trends in power electronics/power systems include the integration of renewable energy sources, the development of more efficient and compact power converters, and the implementation of advanced control techniques to improve power system stability and reliability.
