Preparing for the GRE Physics Exam: Resources & Tips

Click For Summary
When preparing for the GRE Physics exam, several resources are recommended. ETS has released five official old exams, which are valuable for practice, and community-provided solutions are available online. A notable resource is the book "Conquering the Physics GRE," published a couple of years ago, which includes material reviews and practice tests, although these are not official and may differ from the actual exam format. While the book is considered affordable and useful, it should not be the sole study resource. There is also a query about the necessity of working through all problems in "Fundamentals of Physics" by Resnick and Halliday, indicating a need for guidance on effective study strategies.

Hey!

I'm planning on applying at some schools in the US next year/this year and I need ot take the GRE exam this fall. I've looked at some old exams and they look pretty straightforward, but I was wondering if anyone knew any resources for the physics exam (i.e. practice tests etc.).

Thanks!

ETS has released five old exams, those and community provided solutions can be found on the internet. Also, a new book for the physics GRE was published a couple years ago, called Conquering the Physics GRE. The authors review some material and provide a few practice tests. But keep in mind those aren't made by the test makers, so they aren't going to be as much like the real thing. Still, I found the book to be worthwhile, especially given how cheap it is, but it shouldn't be your only resource.

Does it necessary to go through all the problems in Fundamentals of Physics by Resnick and Halliday? I really need some suggestions in this case.

TL;DR: Jackson or Zangwill for Electrodynamics? Hi, I want to learn ultrafast optics and I am interested in condensed matter physics, ie using ultrafast optics in condensed matter systems. However, before I get onto ultrafast optics I need to improve my electrodynamics knowledge. Should I study Jackson or Zangwill for Electrodynamics? My level at the moment is Griffiths. Given my interest in ultrafast optics in condensed matter, I am not sure which book is better suited for me. If...
