Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on pursuing a physics career, particularly in quantum physics, with a focus on salary expectations in the United States, which can reach up to $100,000 annually. The participant, a high school student from Thailand, contrasts this with the significantly lower salaries in their home country, ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 per year. The conversation also touches on the importance of obtaining a bachelor's degree in physics before advancing to graduate studies, and the variability of salaries in theoretical physics roles.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of quantum physics concepts
  • Knowledge of the educational pathways for physics careers
  • Familiarity with salary structures in different countries
  • Awareness of theoretical versus experimental physics job markets
NEXT STEPS
  • Research graduate programs in quantum physics in the US
  • Explore salary trends for physicists in Germany and China
  • Investigate the differences between theoretical and experimental physics careers
  • Learn about the job market for physics graduates in various countries
USEFUL FOR

High school students considering a physics career, undergraduate students in physics, and anyone interested in understanding the global job market for physicists.

I am a high school student and planning to study in physics-> Quantum -> QFT//Standard model. Physics career in my country, Thailand, is very unexpected because of its very low salary;5,000-10,000 US dollars per years. While in US, it's up to 100,000 dollars.

I don't really mean to specify on united states. I want to know if there are other places that are very good for quantum physics career. Or should I go to Germany, or china or something?

What do you want to do with that degree? Keep in mind you're talking about things you'd study at the graduate level, but first you just need to earn a bachelors degree in physics. Not all jobs in physics pay that well, especially in theoretical work.
