Why is a quantum computer theoretically faster than a regular computer? Is it because of parallelization?

There really arent any functional quantum computers at the moment - Dwave One obviously have their "quantum computer" which they developed for Lockhead and Martin but it is algorithm restricted and has never proven its quantum processing.
