Why quantum computers are faster?

I have read dome articles about that but still I am confused about parallel processing (and how it is related to superposition)?
Does it mean that we use all linear combinations of the eigenstates of a qubit in the same time? So in contrast to bit, qubit is a unit of information with infinite states, which can be used simultaneously. s this correct?
