Bug Registration Captcha not showing last night.

AI Thread Summary
Users experienced issues with the registration captcha not displaying on multiple browsers, including Safari, Opera, and Firefox, while using OSX Leopard. Despite attempts to reset cache and cookies, the captcha appeared only as a blue box with a question mark. The following morning, a different type of captcha was successfully displayed, prompting a cognitive-style question instead. The user ultimately re-registered after a long hiatus, but concerns about the missing image captcha persisted. The problem was confirmed in Firefox as well, where the expected registration image failed to load, and the refresh option did not resolve the issue.

Using OSX Leopard.

Safari, Opera, FF, browers same thing. No registration image. Reset cache, cookies etc. checked Java. Everything. No image. Just blue box GIF with question mark.

That was last night. This morning there was a cognitive-style captcha rather: take prefix from 'somewhere' and what do you get? sort of thing. Fine.

Just thought I'd let you know.

So I'm registered (after many years hiatus) again.

There should never be an image capatcha. Who were you before?

I can't remember who I was. Searched your member list to see a familiar name, but none of them rang a bell. Searched my email accounts. I must have done some zealous box-cleaning. So I just re-registered as a new user, but the 'registration image', which I'm calling a 'captcha' for convenience, would not show.

This morning there was the question-style 'captcha'.

It vaguely occurs to me I was on a fake site, but having reset everything, last night's site visits are gone. I can check my Opera and FF history though.

Edit: I've examined the Firefox version of PP registration. Similar problem. It goes something like this:

'Please enter the six letters or digits that appear in the image opposite.________Registration Image Refresh Image'

But there is no image, and the Refresh button doesn't bring one up.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
