Simple Fiber Optics Communications System

AI Thread Summary
A simple fiber optics communication system transmits data using light signals through fiber optic cables, which are made of glass or plastic. Key components include a light source (like a laser), a transmitter to convert electrical signals into light, and a receiver to convert light back into electrical signals. Understanding the function of each component is essential for grasping how the system operates. Resources like articles and tutorials can provide further insights into building and understanding these systems. Overall, fiber optics play a crucial role in modern communication technology.

Hi, it would be great if someone could give me a conceptual explanation of how a simple circuit of fiber optics communication works, since this is where the world is, in a communications sense.

This is where the wonderful "internet" comes to the rescue. It will be much more interactive there than it would being from a boring textful lecture ^^. If there are any questions, feel free to ask.

Ha, the funny thing: having read that article, and not more than one minute from finishing reading it, I show up here and see your link. I can see what you said being the truth, though. It is a good article.

Now that I read that article it would be great to get to know how to make it, but I would also like some explanation of the specific functions of the components of the circuit so that I know what is the purpose of each one in creating a simple communications system. Any link you could recommend would be appreciated, but keep in mind that my knowledge is basic.

Hi all I have some confusion about piezoelectrical sensors combination. If i have three acoustic piezoelectrical sensors (with same receive sensitivity in dB ref V/1uPa) placed at specific distance, these sensors receive acoustic signal from a sound source placed at far field distance (Plane Wave) and from broadside. I receive output of these sensors through individual preamplifiers, add them through hardware like summer circuit adder or in software after digitization and in this way got an...
I have recently moved into a new (rather ancient) house and had a few trips of my Residual Current breaker. I dug out my old Socket tester which tell me the three pins are correct. But then the Red warning light tells me my socket(s) fail the loop test. I never had this before but my last house had an overhead supply with no Earth from the company. The tester said "get this checked" and the man said the (high but not ridiculous) earth resistance was acceptable. I stuck a new copper earth...
Thread 'Beauty of old electrical and measuring things, etc.'
Even as a kid, I saw beauty in old devices. That made me want to understand how they worked. I had lots of old things that I keep and now reviving. Old things need to work to see the beauty. Here's what I've done so far. Two views of the gadgets shelves and my small work space: Here's a close up look at the meters, gauges and other measuring things: This is what I think of as surface-mount electrical components and wiring. The components are very old and shows how...
