Kerr Metric: Removing Singularity via Coordinate Transformation

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the potential for removing the singularity of the Kerr metric through coordinate transformation, similar to the approach used with the Schwarzschild metric. Participants explore the applicability of Kruskal-Szekeres coordinates to the Kerr metric, seeking to identify the appropriate coordinate system that achieves this transformation. The conversation highlights the complexities involved in extending the techniques used for Schwarzschild to Kerr metrics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of General Relativity concepts
  • Familiarity with the Schwarzschild metric
  • Knowledge of Kerr metric properties
  • Experience with coordinate transformations in spacetime
NEXT STEPS
  • Research Kruskal-Szekeres coordinates and their application to Kerr metrics
  • Study the mathematical framework of coordinate transformations in General Relativity
  • Examine the implications of singularities in rotating black holes
  • Explore advanced topics in black hole thermodynamics and geometry
USEFUL FOR

The discussion is beneficial for physicists, mathematicians, and students specializing in General Relativity, particularly those interested in black hole physics and the mathematical treatment of singularities.

We know that, the singularity of the Schwarzschild metric at ##r = 2M## can be removable via coordinate transformation to Kruskal-Szekers . Can we apply a similar argument to the Kerr metric? If so, what's the name of this coordinate system?
