Source Follower Large Signal - MOSFET amplifier

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on analyzing a Source Follower Large Signal MOSFET amplifier circuit. Key equations presented include v_o = v_IN - v_T, id = k/2*(v_IN - v_T)^2, and iDS = v_o/RS. Participants identified errors in equations 3 and 4, noting that v_o and v_S represent the same voltage. The confusion stems from a lack of clarity on the output voltage (v_o) in the given circuit.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of MOSFET operation and characteristics
  • Familiarity with circuit analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of voltage and current relationships in amplifiers
  • Proficiency in using circuit simulation tools
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the principles of MOSFET amplifiers and their configurations
  • Learn about the small-signal model for MOSFETs
  • Explore circuit simulation software like LTspice for practical analysis
  • Review the derivation and application of the transconductance parameter (k)
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for electrical engineering students, circuit designers, and anyone involved in the design and analysis of MOSFET amplifiers.

I'm still not very confident in analyzing circuits. Here's what I know:

1) v_o=v_IN - v_T
2) id=k/2*(v_IN-v_T)^2
3) v_o=v_S-(k/2)(v_IN-v_T)^2*RS
4) v_o = v_S-id*Rs

iDS = v_o/RS
The answer I chose in the photo was based off of other online discussions. I'm very confused and don't have the slightest idea as to where to go. Any ideas appreciated.

Equations 3 and 4 are wrong. Note that Vo and Vs are the same voltage!

I would look carefully at eq. 2 ...

Oh, BTW your answer is correct also. But for the given circuit, you don't know Vo.
