AI Thread Summary
Crowds are gathering outside St. Joseph the Provider Church in Campbell, drawn by reports that a statue of the Virgin Mary appears to glow. While parishioners pray for cures, the Monsignor attributes the phenomenon to the gold leaf previously on the statue, reflecting a cautious approach to claims of miracles. This perspective highlights a preference for skepticism and thorough examination of miraculous claims, contrasting with other religious traditions that may readily accept unusual occurrences as divine intervention. The discussion emphasizes the Catholic clergy's level-headedness in addressing potential miracles.

While he parishoners are praying
to the statue to be cured the
Monsignor is saying "Oh, it's
just because of the gold leaf that
used to be up there." This is what
I like about the Catholic Clergy.
They are not given to hysterical
assumptions when it comes to
miracles and such.

How do you feel about officially recognized miracles?

The same way. I like the fact they
scrutinize every claim from every
possible angle doing their best to
explain it away as not being a
miracle. They're very level headed
about this.

This is in contrast to so many
other religions and other branches
of Christianity where the slightest unusual happening is
accepted as God stepping in and
cirumventing one of his own normal
modus operandi.

Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
