Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around finding resources for practicing Lagrangian mechanics, specifically targeting simple problems suitable for beginners. Participants share recommendations for books and websites that provide solved problems and explanations related to Lagrangian dynamics.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related, Resource sharing

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests suggestions for websites or books with simple solved Lagrangian problems for practice.
  • Another participant recommends "Schaum's Outline of Lagrangian Dynamics," noting its usefulness based on prior experience with other Schaum's outlines.
  • A participant confirms the purchase of the recommended book, indicating interest in the resource.
  • A different participant shares their experience of finding the same book at a local library and endorses it for those learning Lagrangian mechanics.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the value of "Schaum's Outline of Lagrangian Dynamics" as a useful resource for beginners, but no consensus on other specific resources is established.

Contextual Notes

Limitations: The discussion does not explore the depth or specific content of the recommended resources, nor does it address the varying levels of simplicity in problems across different materials.

Who May Find This Useful

does anyone have any suggestions for websites (and or books) that have some decently simple solved Lagrangian problems that i could try to solve as practice. I'm just a beginner so the simpler it is the better. Also any websites or books that might be good for explanations of Lagrangians.

Try Schaum's outline of Lagrangian Dynamics. I've never read it but other Schaum's I have read are quite useful. It's cheap for a book! good luck

I went to my local library, the Carnegie Library in Oakland (Pittsburgh), PA and they had a copy of the Schaums outline so I checked it out. It is very good. I recommend this for anyone learning Lagrangian mechanics.

Thanks
Matt
