SUMMARY

The forum discussion centers on solving the cryptarithmic equation (PQR)² + (STUQ)² = (SVWX)², where each letter represents a unique decimal digit from 0 to 9, with the stipulation that neither P nor S can be zero. Participants express challenges in finding a solution that adheres to these constraints, particularly with the ambiguity introduced by the values assigned to V and Q. The discussion highlights the importance of maintaining unique digit assignments while exploring potential solutions.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of cryptarithmic puzzles and their rules
  • Basic knowledge of algebraic equations
  • Familiarity with digit substitution techniques
  • Problem-solving skills in combinatorial mathematics
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore techniques for solving cryptarithmic equations
  • Research combinatorial optimization methods
  • Learn about programming approaches to automate digit substitution
  • Investigate existing solutions for similar cryptarithmic problems
USEFUL FOR

Mathematicians, puzzle enthusiasts, educators teaching algebra, and anyone interested in combinatorial problem-solving techniques.

Substitute each of the letters by a different decimal digit from 0 to 9 to satisfy this cryptarithmetic equation:

(PQR)2 + (STUQ)2 = (SVWX)2

Note: None of P and S can be zero.

There seems to be a minor typing error.

U = W = P = 1 contravenes the provision that each letter need to represent a different digit.

OK, this one is better:wink:

(480)2 + (1768)2 = (1832)2

Very good, dsa.

I am now certain that you will be able to obviate the ambiguity corresponding to V=Q=8.

I cannot find a solution for all unique PQRSTUVWX :frown:
