SUMMARY

The Tektronix 2465A oscilloscope features a rear panel channel 2 output that can be modified to function similarly to the vertical output of older 500 series scopes. Users can refer to the 424-page Service Manual, available for download at Tektronix's website, for detailed schematics and instructions. Specifically, modifications involve utilizing the channel 2 preamp and the vertical channel switch to reroute the output signal. A difference amplifier is necessary to convert the differential signal to a single-sided signal suitable for the repurposed channel 2 output.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Tektronix 2465A oscilloscope functionality
  • Familiarity with electronic schematics and block diagrams
  • Knowledge of differential and single-sided signal conversion
  • Experience with oscilloscopes and signal measurement techniques
NEXT STEPS
  • Download and study the Tektronix 2465A and 2467 Service Manual
  • Research how to implement a difference amplifier for signal conversion
  • Explore modifications for channel outputs in Tektronix 7000 series oscilloscopes
  • Learn about feedback loop gain measurement techniques, specifically HP/Middlebrook methods
USEFUL FOR

Electronics engineers, oscilloscope technicians, and hobbyists interested in modifying Tektronix oscilloscopes for enhanced functionality.

I have a Tektronix 2465A oscilloscope. There is on the rear panel a ch.2 output. How can I change that to a vertical output as was the case for the older 500 series scopes. The mode control determined what output was present.

It used to be, "In the old days", that the manual that came with the Tek 'scopes had full schematics in them. If they still do, that is the place to look and figure it out.

Since many 'scopes these days are software-based, you might be out of luck though.

Found it!

Let us know what you find.

Chan 2 is a vertical channel and is an output.
Maybe use Chan 2 for the signal rather than Chan 1.

As @Baluncore points out, that is already the Ch2 Vertical output. Do you want some other channel output instead of Ch2?

thanks Tom,
another to add to my collection of manuals :oldlove::oldlove:

I want the same functional output as the old 1A1 provided with a 500 series scope. I want to switch the output signal; ch.1 , ch.2, ch.1-ch.2. I can do that with a 7000 series scope but I would like to modify my 2465A.

Download the 2465a-and-2467-service-manual linked in post #2.
Go to the block diagram on page 10-4
Locate CH 2 OUT and follow it back to the CH 2 preamp.

Notice how Module 6 is the vertical channel switch.
You will need to somehow take the output from after that channel selection switch to the CH 2 OUT.

Page 10-23b shows the output from the selection switch is a differential voltage, from the switch through the vertical amplifier, U600, to the beam deflection.

You will need to find a difference amplifier, to convert the differential signal to a single-sided signal, that can go to the repurposed CH 2 output.

What bandwidth do you require for your selected output signal ?

Thank you for the detailed response. That looks to be more work than I am ready to attempt. I did find for <$300 a 7000 series rack mount scope that does the job. I am using the vertical signal output to measure feedback loop gains in the fashion of HP/Middlebrook.
