The book: Spacetime Physics (Taylor - Wheeler) - missing solutions

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The book "Spacetime Physics: Introduction to Special Relativity; Second Edition" by Taylor and Wheeler includes solutions only for odd-numbered exercises, a design choice intended to facilitate homework assignments for instructors. This approach allows educators to assign even-numbered exercises without providing students with immediate access to solutions, promoting independent problem-solving. The discussion highlights the common practice in the US educational system, where such methods are frequently employed to enhance learning outcomes.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Special Relativity concepts
  • Familiarity with problem-solving techniques in physics
  • Knowledge of educational practices in the US

Hi
I have buyed the book Spacetime physics - Introduction to Special Relativity; Second Edition.

It is a great book, although I am currently only at second chapter.

There are exercises with solutions in this book. The problem is, there are solutions only to odd numbered exercises. Can I find somewhere solutions to even-numbered ones?

Is it a purpose by authors, that some exercises don't have solutions in the book, so readers cannot controll themselves?

Thanks for any help
Tomas

Yes. Instructors who use the book for a course that they are teaching, can assign exercises that don't have solutions given, as homework that is to be submitted for grading (marking). This is very common in the US, maybe not as common elsewhere.
