Other Topic for a Master's Degree in theoretical Astrophysics final project

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a Master's student in Theoretical Astrophysics seeking guidance on selecting a final project topic, with a focus on General Relativity and black holes. The student aims to choose a subject that will enhance future research opportunities. A key concern raised is the absence of an advisor, which complicates the decision-making process. It is emphasized that engaging with potential advisors before finalizing a topic is crucial, as this ensures alignment with available supervision and expertise in the chosen field. The importance of selecting a relevant and promising area of study for future research is highlighted.

Hello all,

I'm doing a Master's Degree in Theoretical Astrophysics and now I need to decide in which topic I will do my final project and I wanted to ask you what would be the best option. I would like to do something that would make me have some future in the investigational path I choose here.

The topics I like the most are General Relativity and the theoretical approach to black holes, but I don't really know which thematics will really allow me to get a good path for my future (I mean, that will be a important field of study in the next years and I would be able to continue my work there more easily).

I would thank some help here which suggestions to decide in the fields I cited.

Thank you so much.

What does your advisor say?

Hello, Vanadium 50, thank you for your response.

That's the problem here, I don't have the figure of an advisor yet, we have to talk with the professor we think that fits best to the topic we have in mind, but I still don't have anyone. I'm asking to get some good ideas and clearing my mind about who to speak.

That's backwards. You need to talk with at least prospective advisors first. Otherwise what good is it to pick a topic and find nobody is available to supervise it?

Bit Britain-specific but I was wondering, what's the best path to take for A-Levels out of the following (I know Y10 seems a bit early to be thinking about A-levels, but my choice will impact what I do this year/ in y11) I (almost) definitely want to do physics at University - so keep that in mind... The subjects that I'm almost definitely going to take are Maths, Further Maths and Physics, and I'm taking a fast track programme which means that I'll be taking AS computer science at the end...
After a year of thought, I decided to adjust my ratio for applying the US/EU(+UK) schools. I mostly focused on the US schools before, but things are getting complex and I found out that Europe is also a good place to study. I found some institutes that have professors with similar interests. But gaining the information is much harder than US schools (like you have to contact professors in advance etc). For your information, I have B.S. in engineering (low GPA: 3.2/4.0) in Asia - one SCI...
I graduated with a BSc in Physics in 2020. Since there were limited opportunities in my country (mostly teaching), I decided to improve my programming skills and began working in IT, first as a software engineer and later as a quality assurance engineer, where I’ve now spent about 3 years. While this career path has provided financial stability, I’ve realized that my excitement and passion aren’t really there, unlike what I felt when studying or doing research in physics. Working in IT...
