AI Thread Summary
Loading times for forum pages containing multiple YouTube video links are significantly delayed, often taking 15 to 35 seconds to fully load. Users experience jitteriness and are unable to interact with the page until it finishes loading. Testing reveals that the long wait is linked to the number of packets being downloaded, which can exceed 6000 for several videos. Despite having a fast internet connection, users report errors such as "this video is unavailable" during the loading process. The discussion highlights a frustrating user experience related to video links on forum topic pages.

Very jittery during loading of topics which contain several YouTube video links. Long time during the page loading, so can't click on anything reliably or to scroll up or down UNTIL the page finishes loading. Fifteen, twenty, thirtyfive seconds while waiting for the forum page to fully load.
Example is this: https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/favorite-songs-new-thread.933940/page-13#post-6023781

Physics news on Phys.org
That appears to be a buffering problem on the Internet, or perhaps a slow server. I didn't catch all of the info on the first loading, but page refreshes execute immediate.

Works OK for me.

Can you watch videos when you go to youtube?

watching videos is fine; its just the long wait while the forum topics load, containing the many links to the videos.
No kidding - wait about 20 to 40 seconds for the forum page to fully load when there're links to YouTube videos.

Ah, found it! Those three videos are downloading to your machine, all 6000+ packets. Just tested my download speed at 93Mb/s and those 6000+ packets took about 30sec. That's about 20 minutes of video, and they all report an error message of "this video is unavailable". :headbang:

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
