Torsional pendulums have practical applications in devices like torsion pendulum clocks and various measuring instruments. To improve the accuracy of experiments involving torsional pendulums, it is suggested to utilize different apparatus, such as more precise measuring tools and controlled environments. The discussion emphasizes the importance of calibration and consistent methodology for reliable results. Participants express interest in exploring the experiment further, despite some having limited experience. Overall, the conversation highlights both the relevance of torsional pendulums in real-life applications and the need for rigorous testing methods.

Can you please tell me, where can a torsional pendulum be used in every day life as an application? And how can this experiment be re-tested more accurately and preciselly (by using different apparatus)?

Thank you guys

Torsion pendulum clock, never done the experiment.

The book claims the answer is that all the magnitudes are the same because "the gravitational force on the penguin is the same". I'm having trouble understanding this. I thought the buoyant force was equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Weight depends on mass which depends on density. Therefore, due to the differing densities the buoyant force will be different in each case? Is this incorrect?
