AI Thread Summary
The discussion reflects on the evolution of the Physics Forums website and its impact on users' learning experiences, particularly in Quantum Field Theory (QFT) and Statistical Mechanics. Users express a desire for a comprehensive archive of the site's transformations over the years, highlighting the importance of adhering to community rules while fostering meaningful discussions. The Wayback Machine is suggested as a resource for exploring the site's history. Additionally, there is an emphasis on the value of different authors' perspectives in understanding complex subjects. The conversation underscores the balance between seeking knowledge and respecting community guidelines.

Hi, I am just reminiscing (I guess this comes with age).

Is there any option for a website that recollects all the transformations this cool website has transformed over the years?
I know sometime I got infringements for being on the edge of posting (it's not from ill doing, I just haven't read the rules; when you have an appetite for seeking knowledge... rules only deter you from it, but I conformed since without those rules we could not have meaningful discussions).

Sometimes it seems everything changes, but those who remember before INSIGHTS BLOG there was physicspost website which also had articles.

BTW, because of this awesome website I got my highest mark in my physics studies in QFT I (the other courses aren't so great), it was the summer of 2014: https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/another-question-from-srednickis-qft-book.761915/

I hope in the future perhaps opening more threads on QFT in PF on other books which I have (it's amazing how this subject can have different takes from different authors, every author brings his own personality to the subject literally).
Also in Statistical Mechanics I have plenty of questions for a real digging which is in order, but I am patient I have the time to understand the physics and maths I am learning.

In the math part I am not sure perhaps MSE is better, though sometimes it looks like there are questions that no one knows how to answer...

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
This came up in my job today (UXP). Never thought to raise it here on PF till now. Hyperlinks really should be underlined at all times. PF only underlines them when they are rolled over. Colour alone (especially dark blue/purple) makes it difficult to spot a hyperlink in a large block of text (or even a small one). Not everyone can see perfectly. Even if they don't suffer from colour deficiency, not everyone has the visual acuity to distinguish two very close shades of text. Hover actions...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
