AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the 1964 Ford Galaxie and its context within a scene featuring classic cars from the early 1960s, alongside the first generation USS Enterprise from Star Trek. Participants clarify the distinction between the "Galaxie Class" and "Galaxy Class," noting that the latter refers to the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D from the later Star Trek series. The conversation highlights various classic cars present in the scene, including a 1957 Pontiac Star Chief, a 1959 Plymouth, and a Dodge from 1956, among others. There is also speculation about identifying a car's rear end, with a mention of the Chevrolet Corvair. Don't you mean Galaxie Class?

The picture shows the first generation USS Enterprise, NCC-1701, without a letter suffix. That makes it the first "Constitution class" ship. The original Star Trek series was made in 1966–1969, which explains why most of the cars in the picture are from the early 1960s. No wormhole, nor Photoshop, was needed to fix an anachronism.

The "Galaxy Class" Enterprise came later, NCC-1701-D. That was filmed in 1987–1994.

Yes, the 1964 Ford Galaxie.

In front of the Galaxie is a 1957 Pontiac Star Chief.

On the other side of the street, you have a Plymouth 1959, and another Ford Galaxie 1964.

In the parking lot, there is a Dodge 1956, a Cadillac 54-55, a Desoto 57-58, and a Chevrolet 1964.

And there's a 1964 Pontiac Station Wagon on the truck.

I can't identify the car's rear end on the other side of the street. I was thinking Chevrolet Corvair, but it seems they did not come with that two-tone configuration, except for the truck.

I used to live for that stuff. What an era for car design.

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
