SUMMARY

The two major types of fungi are Ascomycota (ascomycetes) and Basidiomycota (basidiomycetes), both classified under the larger group Dikarya. While Zygomycota is another significant group, it is not typically included in the primary classification of fungi. This distinction is crucial for understanding fungal taxonomy and ecology.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic knowledge of fungal biology
  • Understanding of fungal taxonomy
  • Familiarity with the Dikarya group
  • Awareness of different fungal life cycles
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the characteristics of Ascomycota and Basidiomycota
  • Explore the ecological roles of fungi in ecosystems
  • Learn about the life cycles of different fungal groups
  • Investigate the significance of Zygomycota in fungal classification
USEFUL FOR

Students studying biology, mycologists, and anyone interested in fungal classification and ecology will benefit from this discussion.

There are two major groups of fungi in Dikarya: ascomyctes (Ascomycota), basidiomyctes(Basidiomycota)
However, there are other major groups like Zygomycota. So I'm guessing what your instructor means.
