Understanding Alpha Particle Generation in Radon Decay

Wow, tons of dedicated geeky geniuses. Hoping for answers on the finer points of Radon physics. Are the Alpha particles generated by Rn 222 decay actually new particles or some existing helium atoms with the electrons knocked off...or something else?
