Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the concept of missile acceleration as described in the Rifts game system, specifically focusing on the interpretation of an acceleration rate of 10% of the speed of light per turn and its conversion to standard units of meters per second squared.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the physical meaning of an acceleration of 10% of light per turn and seeks to convert this to meters per second squared.
  • Another participant questions whether the term "turn" refers to a game turn or a different context, suggesting it might indicate an increment in velocity for each turn of play.
  • A later reply clarifies that the context is related to a science fiction game, implying that "turn" likely refers to a game turn.
  • There is a request for information regarding the highest acceleration achieved in practice, indicating a curiosity about real-world comparisons.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not appear to reach a consensus on the meaning of "turn" or the implications of the acceleration rate, indicating that multiple interpretations and uncertainties remain in the discussion.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations regarding the definitions of terms used in the game context, and the discussion does not resolve the conversion of the acceleration into standard units, nor does it clarify the practical implications of such an acceleration.

Never heard of it.
Are you making reference to a video game or something?
http://www.google.com/search?q="per+turn"+acceleration

Could it mean an increment in velocity for each turn of play in a game?
(I'm not a video gamer...) or for each complete orbit?
that is the place where from I quoted. my problem is which is the highest acceleration obtained in practice?

What does the word "turn" mean in this context?

It's a science fiction game conversion website as can be seen from it's URL. Therfore a turn is most likely a game turn.

The game system is called "Rifts" (see the bottom of the webpage) - thus the website is a description of how to implement Babylon-5 (a TV show) in the "Rifts" game system.
