Unravel the meaning of the variables to find numerical answers

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a complex riddle involving four variables: s, t, r, and u, which need to be solved under specific conditions. The key requirement is that none of the values can equal zero, and they should not repeat themselves. Initial attempts to solve the riddle suggested values of zero for all variables, which was deemed incorrect. Subsequent solutions proposed include s = 1, t = 1, u = 1, r = 1, and variations involving complex numbers such as s = 1, t = -1, u = i, and r = -i. The conversation highlights the flexibility of the solutions, particularly with the complex numbers being interchangeable, while also emphasizing the challenge of finding non-repeating values.

This is a riddle that has proven to be a stumper.
At least, the people I have asked...

The task is to unravel the meaning of the variables to find numerical answers.
Can you do it?

Solve for "s", "t", "r", and "u:" *Edit* When Zero is not a solution. *Edit*
s * s & = & & s \\

s * t & = & & t \\

t * r & = & & u \\

u * u & = & & t \\

u * r & = & & s \\

r * r & = & & t \\
s=0
t=0
u=0
r=0

Ah, yes, this is true; but not exactly as complicated as it truly is.

I say this, and I should have said this before, because none of these values equal zero.

And! No values "repeat" themselves, exactly.

Try again

s=1
t=1
u=1
r=1

Or is that what you mean by "No values repeat themselves, exactly."

s = 1
t = -1
u = i
r = -i

ha-Ha! Yes, that is the correct set of answers "Moo"!

But you can also notice that i and -i can be inter-transposed and still make sense.

Good job.

Yea, if they are all ones then it works as well, but I thought that
was too easy so I said that they shouldn't repeat.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
