My setup is same but it's not perfectly inelastic it's just head on inelastic
The problem involves three spheres, each of mass m, on a frictionless surface. Spheres A and B are connected by a cord and initially at rest when sphere C strikes sphere B. The task is to determine the velocities of the spheres after the collision, assuming an elastic impact between B and C.
The discussion is active, with various approaches being explored. Participants have raised concerns about the assumptions made regarding the velocities of spheres A and B, and some have suggested alternative methods such as using the coefficient of restitution instead of energy conservation. There is no explicit consensus, but several equations and relationships have been proposed.
Participants note the complexity of the problem, with multiple unknowns and equations being discussed. The nature of the collision (elastic vs. inelastic) is also a point of consideration, with implications for how to approach the problem mathematically.
I do not know what you mean by that. Is it a head on collision or oblique?Arnav jamale said:it's just head on inelastic
