What Are the Names and Materials of Chainsaw Engine Components?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on identifying the names and materials of chainsaw engine components, particularly the cylinder and its associated parts. The cylinder at the bottom is identified as a piston, which is typically made of steel or aluminum alloy, while the connecting rod links it to the crankshaft, also likely made of steel. There is no standardized name for the assembly as a whole, but terms like "Piston & Crankshaft Assembly" or "Reciprocating Parts Assembly" are suggested. Participants also reference external resources for further information on engine parts. Overall, the conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding individual components and their materials in chainsaw engines.

Just wondering what the name of the component as a whole is? And what is it made of? Also, if you could tell me the name of all the constituent parts, that would be great!

What component?

Your images aren't visible to anyone but you, qablos. All we see are tiny boxes with a question mark in them.

Sorry, can you see this?

If not, here is the URL: http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/550838_10152294230555602_1422802942_n.jpg

PS.
I'm mainly interested on what the cylinder at the bottom is made of and It's name...
Is it just a cylinder?0 It also has a bar going across it, which attaches it to the other components.

Also, if you know what the other materials in the picture are likely to be, please list them along with a description of the part. Thanks.
Thanks.

The cylinder at the bottom is a piston (should be ring in the slot going around it but it's missing). The vertical bar is the piston (connecting) rod, and it's connected to the crankshaft which has a counter-balance to the left of where the piston rod connects. The piston and piston rod are probably made of steel or some aluminum alloy. The crank-shaft is probably made of steel, and the counter balance may be steel or iron.

What rcgldr said.

There isn't really a name for the assembly as a whole just the individual parts. I suppose some manufacturers might sell that as one assembly and make up a name for it but could be anything...

Piston & crankshaft Assembly?
Reciprocating parts Assembly?

For other engine part names try the diagram and parts list here..
