Discussion Overview

The discussion focuses on the differences between motorized breakers and simple breakers, exploring their functions, mechanisms, and applications within various types of circuit breakers.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the function of the motor in a breaker and its operational category.
  • Another participant states that motorized breakers are used for remote power switching but clarifies that the motor does not operate the breaker mechanism itself.
  • A different participant explains that the low voltage motor in a motorized breaker operates a worm gear to open or close the breaker contacts, enabling remote operation.
  • It is mentioned that the wiring of a specific cable connects to a Lyntec controller board.
  • One participant describes motorized breakers as specialized electrical protection devices designed for electric motors, highlighting their functions such as fault signaling, automatic reconnections, and protection against electrical faults like short circuits.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present various perspectives on the functions and mechanisms of motorized breakers, with some clarifying specific operational aspects while others focus on their applications. No consensus is reached regarding the overall comparison with simple breakers.

Contextual Notes

Some claims about the specific functions and mechanisms of motorized breakers depend on the definitions and contexts provided by participants, which may vary.

Dear all,

I want to know what is the function of motor in breaker and how it works.

In which category it falls?

I have studied many types of circuit breakers like
MCB
MCCB
RCD
RCBO
VCB
ACB
etc.

It's used to remotely switch power on or off.
However, as described in the picture, it will not operate the breaker mechanism itself.

Hi tipu_sultan. Your attachment shows a breaker with a remote-control function. The low voltage motor is indicated as turning a worm gear to close or open the breaker contacts, thus facilitating remote operation.

That 3-wire red/white/black cable is wired to one of the Lyntec controller boards.

Motorized Breaker are a specialized type of electrical protection device that designed specifically for electric motors, of both 60 Hz and 50 Hz. Functions are faulting signaling, automatic reconnections, protection against electrical faults like short circuits.
