What is the equation for calculating power output?

Click For Summary
To calculate power output when lifting a 40 kg weight vertically 2 meters in 2 seconds, the formula used is power equals work divided by time. Work is calculated as force times distance, where force is equal to mass times acceleration due to gravity. The power output can be expressed as P = (m * g * h) / t, where m is mass, g is the acceleration due to gravity, h is height, and t is time. Power is commonly abbreviated as 'P,' which can be confused with momentum, abbreviated as 'p.' Understanding these equations is crucial for solving related physics problems.

Homework Statement

You lift a 40 kg weight vertically 2 meters in 2 seconds. Your power output is ____.

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

M = 40 kg
A = 1 m/s
F = ?

I have no idea how to go further than this. Also, what is power abbreviated as? For example, force is abbreviated as F and mass is M. Momentum is P, but what is power?

Power is just energy / time.

Power is generally 'P' and so gets confused with momentum 'p'.

Power is work/time

But before you go too far here, what is that A supposed to be?

Thanks! I got the answer I couldn't figure out what the equatio nfor power was.

The book claims the answer is that all the magnitudes are the same because "the gravitational force on the penguin is the same". I'm having trouble understanding this. I thought the buoyant force was equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Weight depends on mass which depends on density. Therefore, due to the differing densities the buoyant force will be different in each case? Is this incorrect?
