AI Thread Summary
A user seeks assistance identifying a compound described as small, shiny black beads. Initial suggestions point to carbon due to its malleability and resemblance to pencil lead. Further discussion introduces the possibility of the beads being lead shot from a shotgun shell or bismuth shot, noting that bismuth has distinct magnetic properties compared to lead or graphite. The conversation highlights the need for more specific testing to confirm the material's identity, including scraping the beads to check for dust-like characteristics. A link to a materials science resource is provided for additional context.

Chemistry news on Phys.org
if it's black then it's carbon
can you provide any more specifics?

well i just was messing around with it and its very malleable

try to see if you can scrape some peices off of it with a knife. If its like dust then its probly carbon.
