Chemistry What Is the Meaning of pH = pKa - 1?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the interpretation of the equation pH = pKa - 1, specifically regarding the ratio it implies. Participants debate the meaning of the choices 10:1 and 1:10, with confusion over the context of the question. One contributor insists that the question lacks clarity and is ultimately meaningless. Despite attempts to clarify, the conversation remains focused on the ambiguity of the question rather than providing a definitive answer. The overall consensus is that the phrasing of the question does not effectively convey its intended meaning.

I think it is 1:10 but I am not sure the meaning of PKa -1, can someone explain it please.

Nothing you say makes any sense. What are a and b? "The ratio of x = y" is meaningless. The meaning of pKa - 1 is the value of pKa minus one; where's the problem?

Sorry for the mistakes. a) 10:1
b) 1:10

That still gives no help to answering the question. Presumably a) and b) are alternative answers to the question, but what was the question? Can you quote it - as exactly as possible please.

The question is ' What is the ratio of pH= pKa-1? Two choices are given :

(a)10:1
(b)1:10

so I think the answer is (b)

I repeat, the question is meaningless.

I don't get how to argue it. i can prove: evolution is the ability to adapt, whether it's progression or regression from some point of view, so if evolution is not constant then animal generations couldn`t stay alive for a big amount of time because when climate is changing this generations die. but they dont. so evolution is constant. but its not an argument, right? how to fing arguments when i only prove it.. analytically, i guess it called that (this is indirectly related to biology, im...
