SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the probabilities associated with a loaded six-sided die, where the number 1 is three times as likely to appear as the other numbers (2, 3, 4, 5, and 6). The derived probabilities are P(1) = 3/8, P(2) = 1/8, and P(even number) = 3/8. The calculations are confirmed to be correct, addressing concerns about the simplicity of the answers for a 10-point question.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic probability concepts
  • Familiarity with weighted probabilities
  • Knowledge of algebraic equations
  • Ability to interpret probability distributions
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the concept of conditional probability
  • Learn about probability distributions in loaded dice
  • Explore the application of Bayes' theorem in probability
  • Investigate common pitfalls in probability problems
USEFUL FOR

Students studying probability theory, educators teaching statistics, and anyone interested in understanding weighted outcomes in random events.

Homework Statement

(10 points) Consider a six-sided die that is loaded so that numbers 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are all equally likely to appear, and 1 is three times as likely to appear as 2.
(a) What is the probability of rolling a 2?
(b) What is the probability of rolling a 1?
(c) What is the probability of rolling an even number?

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

3p+p+p+p+p+p=8p
P(1)=3/8
P(2)=1/8
P(3)=1/8
P(4)=1/8
P(5)=1/8
P(6)=1/8
a)1/8
b)3/8
c)3/8
Okay these answers seem way to0 simple for a 10 point question, what did I do wrong?

Nothing is wrong.

Anyway, I guess you mean "too simple", not "to simple".
