What is the Purpose of the PF Forum for Curious Minds?

Found and joined the forum after a google search looking for theoretical answers to a curious mechanical puzzle. I'm not a student, just interested in many subjects and often find myself looking for information sources and reading material. From the outside, PF looks to be a great resource and I hope you won't mind me joining in.
