Undergrad What makes cobalt oxide (co3o4) a magnetic material?

Click For Summary
Cobalt oxide (Co3O4) is being investigated for its magnetic properties, stemming from the inherent magnetism of cobalt. Understanding the bonding interactions between cobalt and oxygen is crucial in determining the magnetic characteristics of Co3O4. Resources like Wikipedia and academic papers provide foundational knowledge and references for further exploration. Online databases may also list various magnetic materials and their properties. Researching these sources will clarify whether Co3O4 exhibits magnetic behavior.

TL;DR
Which compunds of cobalts are magnetic?
We know cobalt is a magnetic material, it can attracted by magnet. Now if we want to know for example cobalt oxide (co3o4) has magnetic property or not what we should do? I mean is there a role to know bonding of cobalt with which elements results in magnetic property? or is there any online website that list all kind of magnetic materials with details?

I am currently reading Kittel's Introduction to Solid State Physics and am confused by the terminology regarding phonons. On page 99 (8th ed.), regarding Eq. 27, Kittel writes: "The energy of an elastic mode of angular frequency ## \omega ## is ## \epsilon = (n + 1/2)\hbar\omega ## when the mode is excited to quantum number ## n ##; that is, when the mode is occupied by ## n ## phonons. This definition implies that: The mode (the harmonic oscillator) is the entity that possesses the wave...
