Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around finding a suitable product to line a dosing tank used for an auxiliary boiler. Participants explore options for protective coatings that can withstand the chemical and thermal conditions associated with the tank's use.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant describes the condition of the tank, noting surface rust and suggesting that a grinder could be used for preparation.
  • Another participant suggests seeking advice from a DIY site, indicating a lack of specific knowledge about the topic.
  • A different participant mentions a spray-on material used for lining pick-up truck beds, proposing it as a potential option but expresses uncertainty about its suitability for the dosing tank's requirements.
  • One participant clarifies the function of the dosing tank, explaining that it is used to mix chemicals like Phosphate or Morpholine for water conditioning in the boiler, and notes that the tank is made of steel and exposed to room temperature.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on a specific product to use for lining the tank, and multiple viewpoints regarding potential solutions are presented.

Contextual Notes

There is uncertainty regarding the chemical and thermal resistance required for the lining material, as well as the specific conditions the tank will be exposed to.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals involved in maintenance or repair of industrial equipment, particularly those working with chemical dosing systems in boiler applications.

I have an old tank on site that is in need of some TLC. Its a dosing tank for our aux boiler. It has a good bit of surface rust but its nothing a grinder can't fix. Does anyone know of a product I could line this tank with? Maby some sort of spray on product or a product that can be laid up?}

Tank is roughly 1m diamter and 2m tall.

If no answer here, maybe try a d-i-y site. I'm not in the UK but I sometimes ask handyman questions on the uk usenet group, uk.d-i-y[/color] and they are very helpful.

I don't know what a dosing tank is, and therefore not the chemical/thermal/etc. resistance you need. There's a spray-on material for lining pick-up truck beds. It's incredibly tough and easy to apply. I think that the brand name is Rhino.

Sorry, dosing tank is used to mix chemicals, in this case Phosphate or Morpholine and pump it into the boiler to condition the water to get proper ph and such.

The tank is exposed to room temperature and is made of steel.
