MHB What Should Computer Science Majors Expect from Linear Algebra?

Click For Summary
Computer science majors can expect linear algebra to cover essential topics such as vector spaces, change of basis, and eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Mastery of Gaussian elimination and understanding row echelon form will be important foundational skills. The course is considered highly beneficial, especially for those planning to study quantum mechanics afterward. Overall, linear algebra is viewed as a crucial component of a computer science education. Engaging with these concepts will enhance analytical and problem-solving skills in the field.

Computer science major here.
I recently completed calculus I, II, III. Now I know that I'll probably be required to take linear algebra.
So far, I expect to do some Gaussian elimination (assuming I know what a row echelon is).
What else should I expect from linear algebra?

You should get vector spaces, change of basis, and eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Linear Algebra is by far one of the most useful courses ever, particularly if you take quantum mechanics soon after.

Thread 'How to define a vector field?'
Hello! In one book I saw that function ##V## of 3 variables ##V_x, V_y, V_z## (vector field in 3D) can be decomposed in a Taylor series without higher-order terms (partial derivative of second power and higher) at point ##(0,0,0)## such way: I think so: higher-order terms can be neglected because partial derivative of second power and higher are equal to 0. Is this true? And how to define vector field correctly for this case? (In the book I found nothing and my attempt was wrong...
