SUMMARY

A transformer is classified as a machine because it converts electrical energy from one form to another, specifically changing voltage levels while maintaining power. This classification aligns with the technical definition of a machine, which encompasses devices that transform energy types, including electrical to thermal conversions seen in resistance coils. The absence of moving parts, such as a rotor, does not disqualify it from this category.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electrical energy conversion
  • Familiarity with transformer operation principles
  • Knowledge of voltage and current concepts
  • Basic grasp of energy types and their transformations
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of electromagnetic induction in transformers
  • Explore the differences between step-up and step-down transformers
  • Learn about energy conversion efficiency in electrical devices
  • Investigate the role of resistance coils in energy transformation
USEFUL FOR

Electrical engineers, students studying electrical engineering, and anyone interested in the principles of energy conversion and transformer technology.

Hi Guys!

well ! i have one question to you?

Why transformer is called a machine. It has got no rotor in it. Then what is the reason that we put transformer in the category of machines.

Thanks in advance!

Technicaly anything that converts energy from one form to another is a machine. It doesn't have to be electrical to mechanical. Resistance coils are a machine also in the strictest sense since they convert electricity to heat. A transformer converts one "flavor" of electricity to another.
Or so goes my humble opineo:)
