Icebreaker
I need a sheet of titanium about 2mm thick, 50cmx50cm in area. This may seem an odd request, and it is, but where does one go to buy titanium?

it grows in my back yard... actually.

You can buy Titanium on E BAY?

Holy crap, you can actually buy titanium off ebay.

I believe McMaster-Carr delivers to Canada.

Type "titanium" into the search box and take it from there.

i wonder how much http://www.mcmaster.com/ would charge for shipping? for a 24'x24'x0.063' sheet its $240 or$929.50 for strong stuff. that's 0.381mm thinner then 2mm and an extra 11cm longer on length/width

i live in a small manufacturing city so i can drive out to the industrial part and there are businesses who just order metal for you and ship it to your address, there have got to be a bunch of places that do that in Montreal that would be listed in he yellow pages but i have no idea what they would be under besides just 'metal'

what's your project though? from what i hear titanium is vary difficult to work with

2 things: a killer robot and a chesk extensor. And I'm thinking of going with aluminium instead, athough it might not be as strong. The key factor is that it has to be strong and light.

You may have better luck going with a age hardenable alloy of aluminum. It would be easier to work with, especially if you have to weld. I don't think you'd want to learn just how much fun a Ti fire can be first hand. But without knowing your design criteria, it's tough to give good recommendations.

If you're interested, start a thread in the engineering forum.

McMaster has a fantastic website and on-line ordering. If you give them a call, they will tell you in a heartbeat.

There's also : http://www.rti-intl.com/ , which has a fab unit in Montreal, but I'm not sure they take small orders.

One can get titanium sheet, pure or alloyed, from Allegheny Technologies -http://www.alleghenytechnologies.com/ludlum/pages/products/xq/asp/T.4/qx/productCategory.html .

or

One could also try Timet, but I had trouble with their website. www.timet.com
