Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around choosing an engineering degree, specifically between mechanical and electrical engineering, with mentions of integrated and electro-mechanical engineering programs. Participants explore personal preferences and the implications of different engineering paths.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses uncertainty about choosing between mechanical and electrical engineering, indicating an interest in both fields and mentioning integrated engineering.
  • Another participant suggests that more information about the individual's interests and background is necessary to provide meaningful advice.
  • A different participant notes that obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license may offer more opportunities for mechanical engineers compared to electrical engineers, while also making a light-hearted comment about social perceptions in the fields.
  • Another contribution mentions the existence of an electro-mechanical engineering degree that combines elements of both disciplines, suggesting that the individual should research which universities offer this program.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on which engineering degree is preferable, and multiple perspectives on the decision-making process are presented.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks specific details about the individual's interests, career goals, or educational background, which may influence the decision on the appropriate engineering degree.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals considering a career in engineering, particularly those unsure about which specific engineering discipline to pursue.

I don't know what engineering degree to pick? Mechanical or electrical! I like both. I also heard of integrated engineering at some university? any idea about that?

There's no way we could possibly help you pick a major without knowing anything at all about you.

One thing do, if you get your PE after your degree then you can sign of on more stuff as a mechanical engineer then as an electrical. Chicks in electrical engineering are way hotter do (just kidding).

there is a degree call electro-mechanical engineering offered in some universities, they do teach you stuff from both electrical and mechanical side, but you will have to find out as to which university offer this degree.
