Choosing between Mechanical Engineering and Physics is a common dilemma for students interested in theoretical and practical applications. The discussion highlights a desire to invent concepts like levitation and eco-friendly fuel, which may not align with current physical laws. Pursuing a PhD in Physics could provide a solid foundation for research, but the competitive nature of academic careers is emphasized. A suggestion is made to consider a major in engineering with a minor in physics to ensure job stability while still pursuing interests in theoretical physics. Ultimately, taking foundational courses at community college is recommended to clarify interests and make an informed decision on a major.

Im not sure. I wanted to get a Ph.D in physics so I can do my own research but I’m wondering if that's the path I should take if its alignment with my goals. Like I said I am stuck between Physics, mechanical engineering or engineering physics.
Again, the most basic goal is Physics, first for undergraduate degree. You will need to decide yourself how to specify and choose courses (Physics, Engineering, others) as you go. If you cannot make more specific choices along the way, you will remain lost.
