SUMMARY

The area centroid formula for bar y includes a factor of 0.5 due to the integration of the variable y squared over the area A. The correct representation of the formula is \bar{y}=\frac{1}{A} \int 0.5\ y^2\ dx, indicating that the integration involves division rather than addition. This clarification is essential for accurately calculating centroids in engineering and physics applications.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of calculus, specifically integration techniques.
  • Familiarity with centroid calculations in geometry.
  • Knowledge of area calculations in two-dimensional shapes.
  • Basic principles of physics related to center of mass.
NEXT STEPS
  • Study integration methods for calculating centroids in various shapes.
  • Learn about the application of centroids in structural engineering.
  • Explore the use of centroid formulas in physics problems involving center of mass.
  • Review examples of area calculations for complex geometric figures.
USEFUL FOR

Students in engineering and physics courses, educators teaching calculus and geometry, and professionals involved in structural design and analysis.

Am I right that the + is actually an devided by?

[tex]\bar{y}=\frac{1}{A} \int y\ dx dy = \frac{1}{A} \int 0.5\ y^2\ dx[/tex]

Is that ok?

Those are not plus signs. They are in fact, this symbol here:

[tex]\div[/tex]

So you are right.
