Why does the member info sometimes show last seen, and sometimes not?

AI Thread Summary
The visibility of "last seen" information for members is determined by individual privacy settings. If users have the "Show your online status" option enabled in their profile, their last seen status will be displayed. Additionally, the "Show your current activity" setting reveals what users are currently doing or their last activity. Therefore, whether this information appears or not is entirely dependent on how each user configures their privacy settings. Understanding these settings can clarify why some members' last seen status is visible while others' is not.

Depends on the user's privacy settings. I think it's whether the 'Show your online status' checkbox on the Privacy page of their profile is ticked.

As Ibix has already stated, this is controlled by your privacy settings:

"Show your online status" will display when you were last seen. "Show your current activity" will also show what you are doing now, or what you were doing when you were last seen.

Thanks! I am glad I obliterated the user names in my two examples. I chose them at random, to illustrate the question.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
