Basic Circuit Q: Why does one get shocked and not the other?

Homework Statement : [/B] This is such a basic question that even though it's not a HW problem, I don't know where else to put it. Please see http://i.imgur.com/3O5YrAP.jpg . Why does the person on top get shocked and not at the bottom? More specifically, why is there a current through the...

Medical What is the cause of hiccups and chest pain after eating rice?

It's never a good idea to seek individualized medical advice on an open forum. Please read the sticky: https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=173247

Medical Statin therapy for healthy people with high cholesterol?

Diet and exercise ARE still first line therapy before any statins are recommended in most cases. Only if the individual still maintains a high LDL above the threshold after a certain period of time despite diet and exercise, are then recommended for drug therapy...

Medical Vitamin B-12 and folic acid deficiencies

It is rare to see B12 deficiency solely due to decreased intake from foods. Most of the times, surgical patients who are surgically devoid of a stomach or terminal ileum (due to tumors, or other disorders) can be deficient in B12 due to the inability to absorb or produce intrinsic factor that...

Bought speakers with non-US plug how to convert to US outlet voltage?

The other thing I want to confirm is -- the subwoofer states the cord is a 110V power cord, but the plug itself has a voltage on it that says 250V. I should go with what is stated on the subwoofer correct? (And ignore what is on the plug itself?)

Bought speakers with non-US plug how to convert to US outlet voltage?

I'm not really sure where this question would go, or if it should go in this forum at all. This isn't an engineering question per se, but please help me if you can. I bought a set of speakers for my computer recently on Ebay. Apparently all the manuals are in Spanish (which wasn't much of a...

How to solve this triangle problem.

LOL. I like your emphatic NO. But yea, that sounds very messy indeed... I see some x^{2}h^{2} - x^{4} = 144h^{2}... Just this alone makes me not want to do it...

How to solve this triangle problem.

Ok. If I only have to express it in terms of x then I can do it. Glad to know that it's physically impossible to express it in P. Thanks!

How to solve this triangle problem.

I certainly did. But I still have to assign a variable to one of the sides, ie x, and then the other side would be \sqrt{h^{2} - x^{2}} It doesn't help me in putting h in terms of P however, because now P = x + h + \sqrt{h^{2} - x^{2}} How can I express h only in terms of P ?
