Good thinking!
Reading about motors and generators might help solidify your understanding. Some helpful search terms are induction motor, slip and counter EMF.
Well, it depends. If you are welding plate mild steel with a butt joint the practical limit is about 3/16" thick. If you bevel the edges of the joint the limit is your patience. A larger torch and fill rod will make the work go faster but there is not a limit "as a rule". I hope this helps.
Almost everything I think is worth watching has already been mentioned.
I remember being terrified by "Demon seed" as a child. Maybe it is worth another viewing.
edit: Another I could not remember the name of at first -"Phase IV"
Our reactor is a BWR and the water in the fuel storage pool is not borated -I am sure. I don't think the storage racks contain boron or halfnium but I will find out.
The double peak in the moderator curve is very interesting! Is it also true for BWR fuel? It would have to be wouldn't it...
Astronuc I'll take your word for it. Our SRM spec is 3 CPS.
I don't have data to back my statement except what I have been told...
Obviously we have never attempted a startup without sources or irradiated fuel. I can say without a doubt, however, one fresh bundle does not achieve...
How does a fog nozzle overmoderate a fuel bundle? Wouldn't void coefficient be large? We store new fuel in liquid water at <100F and are far from criticality.
A new core with no fission products present might not (probably won't) fission at all. Start up sources (americium and californium...
If you are in the US you might get a tour of a simulator used in a nuclear plant training center. If you are in the Southeast I will show you around our sim myself.
@Hiddencamper
BFN here, where are you?
I understand. PLC power is on and a fault is indicated by a flashing LED on the front of the processor. Everything I said still applies.
Do you have access to the PLC program and can you view the data tables? RSLogix?
If you don't you need to get someone with the ability to access the PLC...
Pure speculation here...
Does the e-stop circuit kill power to the plc?
If so, on power up when the e-stop was cleared a fault bit may have been set. Check the s: data table for a set PLC fault bit. If the condition is cleared you may be able to simply set it back to 0. Also if it is an...
There are several good web sites. Try a search on amateur telescope making -ATM.
"How to make a telescope" by Jean Texereau would be a good place to start as far as books go. I found a used copy online for $3. I am assuming you are interested in making a 8" reflector rather than a refractor.
I didn't read an endorsement in this though.
"Great, I mean terrific," Johnson said sarcastically. "I mean, the most libertarian candidate that Republicans may end up fielding."
Edit: Not that you said there was an endorsement.
