AI Thread Summary
Inappropriate emails have been sent to UK government inboxes, promoting the International Journal of Computer Science and Application (IJCSA) and soliciting a $200 publishing fee. The email raises several red flags: it targets individuals in unrelated fields, contains poor English, and lacks clarity on how the recipients' email addresses were obtained. Additionally, there are concerns about the legitimacy of the organization, which appears to be based in India. Recipients are cautioned against unsolicited emails, as they may be scams, regardless of their academic credentials.

I am highly suspicious of this since

1) It was addressed to inappropriate personnel viz experts on the wrong fields.

2) Note the 'charges' highlighted in red.

3) The English is not quite right.

4) It is not clear how these people obtained internal government email addresses.

5) The internet suggests this is actually an outfit based in India.

Just because you are a Phd, Msc etc don't believe you can't be fooled so beware.

Any kind of unsolicited email such as that is high suspect.

This week, I saw a documentary done by the French called Les sacrifiés de l'IA, which was presented by a Canadian show Enquête. If you understand French I recommend it. Very eye-opening. I found a similar documentary in English called The Human Cost of AI: Data workers in the Global South. There is also an interview with Milagros Miceli (appearing in both documentaries) on Youtube: I also found a powerpoint presentation by the economist Uma Rani (appearing in the French documentary), AI...
