AI Thread Summary
An individual is seeking an external USB CD/DVD R/W drive for their laptop, which lacks an internal drive. They express confusion over how to determine if a DVD drive can also read and write CDs. A response directs them to an Amazon product page that details the drive's capabilities, confirming it can read and write various DVD and CD formats. The original poster, after waiting for a day without further replies, decides to purchase a different drive from Amazon, hoping it will meet their needs for compatibility with Windows XP, 7, and 8.

Hi
I am looking for an external USB CD/DVD R/W drive for my laptop as it does not come with one. I look on Amazon and they only say DVD drive. How do I know whether it can R/W both DVD and CD? Here is the link for Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_7?url=search-alias%3Dcomputers&field-keywords=usb%20dvd%20drive&sprefix=usb+dvd%2Caps%2C401&tag=pfamazon01-20.

Please give me a suggestion which one to buy from the list. I don't need the best or what, I just need one that work with Windows XP, 7 and 8.

Thanks

includes the information:

WRITE: 8X DVD+/-R; 6X DVD+/-R DL; 8X DVD+RW; 6X DVD-RW; 5X DVD-RAM; 24X CD-R/CD-RW
READ: 8X DVD+/-R; 8X DVD+/-R DL; 8X DVD+RW/-RW; 8X DVD+/-RW; 8X DVD-ROM;5X DVD-RAM; 24X CD-R/CD-RW/CD-ROM

(I added the boldface.)

This week, I saw a documentary done by the French called Les sacrifiés de l'IA, which was presented by a Canadian show Enquête. If you understand French I recommend it. Very eye-opening. I found a similar documentary in English called The Human Cost of AI: Data workers in the Global South. There is also an interview with Milagros Miceli (appearing in both documentaries) on Youtube: I also found a powerpoint presentation by the economist Uma Rani (appearing in the French documentary), AI...
