Can someone give me a n00b lesson in absolute values, i though i remembered, but i don't.
I got stuck on a
[tex]-|-8|[/tex]
I got stuck on a
[tex]-|-8|[/tex]
Chi Meson said:Read this as "negative one times the absolute value of negative eight."
zat help?
So the answer is -8TD said:What is |-8| ? And then again a -, since it say - (|-8|)
thank you.HallsofIvy said:Do you see where you went wrong with the first one?
[tex]-1|-8| = 7[/tex]
I think you recognized that |-8|= 8 but then you subtracted 1
-|-8| or -1|-8| does not mean subtract the two numbers- it means multiply!
An absolute value is a mathematical concept that represents the distance of a number from zero on a number line. It is always positive and removes any negative signs from a number.
To calculate the absolute value of a number, simply remove any negative sign and take the number as it is. For example, the absolute value of -5 is 5.
The regular value of a number is its actual numerical value, while the absolute value of a number is its distance from zero on a number line. Absolute value is always positive, while regular value can be positive or negative.
Absolute value is important in math because it allows us to determine the distance between numbers and calculate the difference between them. It is also used in solving equations and inequalities.
Absolute value is used in various fields such as physics, engineering, and economics. Some examples of real-life applications include calculating velocity and acceleration, determining the magnitude of a force, and finding the difference between actual and predicted values in financial data.
